This animation shows the principle of hydrophobic silane impregnation: 1) With gradually reducing moisture content, the electrical resistivity of the concrete is increasing and therefore the rate of corrosion activities on the embedded steel reinforcement will be decreased. 2) This effect also applies to the reduction of unwanted reactions such as Delayed Ettringite Formation (DEF) or Alkali Silica Reaction (ASR) where one of the factor of these reactions is the presence of humidity.
