It's October 22, 2006, a few months after devastating floods in the Mohawk Valley in east-central New York State. Norfolk Southern/Canadian Pacific is still having issues on the old D&H line between Binghamton & Albany, so we start off with a Norfolk Southern detour train. Then the moment has come... The first Railex Produce Train, in partnership with the Union Pacific Railroad and CSX. launched service between Wallula, Washington, and Rotterdam, New York. A second train from Delano, California to NY to Rotterdam was added in 2008. Nicknames for the train included "The Salad Shooter", "The Salad Bowl Express" and others. In 2017, with the continued success of the trains, the Union Pacific acquired Railex's cold storage facilities at Delano, California, Wallula, Washington, and Rotterdam, New York. Union Pacific even ran a special passenger train to the facility in Rotterdam on September 22, 2018. But in May of 2020, the UP discontinued the trains, leaving many people without jobs and a black eye for public relations. What Happened?
